COLIN BROWN FROM HALIFAX JAILED FOR PREDATORY BEHAVIOR INVOLVING 'TEENAGE GIRL' IN SHOCKING ONLINE PLOT
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Halifax, an army veteran named Colin Brown has been sentenced to prison after engaging in a sinister online scheme involving a supposed underage girl. The incident unfolded over several weeks in June and July of 2020, culminating in Brown’s arrest and subsequent conviction for serious sexual offenses.
It was on June 18, 2020, that Brown initiated contact with what he believed was a 13-year-old girl.
In reality, he was communicating with a member of a specialized group known as 'paedophile hunters,' who pose as minors and act as decoys to identify and catch sexual predators.
These hunters, who operate under the guise of security personnel, had set up a fake profile to lure Brown into conversations that quickly turned inappropriate.
According to court proceedings, the woman behind the profile pretended to be a teenage girl, and Brown responded by engaging in explicit discussions.
Prosecutor Alison Mather explained that Brown continued to communicate with the fake account, asking invasive questions about her appearance and requesting explicit photographs.
He sent images of his own chest via WhatsApp and expressed a desire to teach her how to kiss with tongues.
The conversation then escalated to more disturbing topics, with Brown asking about her breast size and explicitly stating his wish to touch her private areas.
Brown’s messages included a shocking invitation for the girl to visit his home, where he allegedly wanted to shower with her, touch her naked body, and teach her how to kiss.
He also sent a message asking her to perform a sexual act on herself.
These exchanges were recorded and shared with the 'paedophile hunters,' who then coordinated with police to investigate further.
On July 2, 2020, the group led police officers to Brown’s residence on Gibraltar Road, Halifax.
When the officers arrived, the group disclosed the details of the online activity, leading to Brown’s immediate arrest.
Throughout the investigation, Brown maintained his innocence, denying all charges and pleading not guilty.
However, on the first day of his trial, he admitted to the actions he had previously denied.
During sentencing, Judge Richard Archer described Brown’s mental state as having a 'warped' way of thinking.
The judge emphasized that only a custodial sentence was appropriate given the gravity of the offenses.
He stated, “By your admission, you genuinely believed this was a 13-year-old girl.
The conversation progressed to include an invitation to shower together, to be naked in front of you, and to teach her how to kiss.
This indicates a very warped way of thinking and the likely harm that you intended, had your victim truly been 13.” Colin Brown, who resides on Gibraltar Road in Halifax, West Yorkshire, but was formerly living at Kingfisher Court in Oswaldtwistle, was sentenced to three years and seven months in prison.
Additionally, he will be subject to indefinite sexual offence notification requirements and a sexual harm prevention order, reflecting the serious nature of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
