CHATHAM THUG CLIVE ARCHER JAILED FOR BRUTAL ASSAULT AND THREATS TO HIS GIRLFRIEND
A dangerous offender found guilty of subjecting his girlfriend to a frightening ordeal has been sentenced to an indefinite period of imprisonment.Clive Archer, 45 years old, residing on Magpie Hall Road in Chatham, was convicted of inflicting severe fear by imprisoning, assaulting, and threatening to kill his partner.
The court revealed that Archer, who had a prior conviction from 2008 for wounding with intent—serving four years plus an extended five-year license—was involved in a violent incident on May 16 of that year.
During a heated dispute at Archer's residence, his partner, Jane Sargeant, attempted to leave but was forcibly restrained.
He hugged her aggressively in a bear hug, threw her onto the bed, and declared she would be kept captive.
He insisted she have sex with him, claiming she owed him, but she refused.
Archer then threatened her with a knife, saying he would stab and kill her within ten seconds, and actually cut her face with the blade.
When she tried to escape and called emergency services by hiding her phone, Archer pursued her, continued counting down from ten, and demanded sexual acts.
When she again declined, he punched her hard, causing disorientation, and told her she would die at nine o'clock.
Police arrived just in time to arrest Archer, who admitted to charges including false imprisonment, threats to kill, and causing bodily harm.
Sargeant sustained cuts and bruises from the attack.
Throughout his criminal record, Archer has accumulated 28 convictions involving 71 separate offenses.
He has been sentenced to serve a minimum of 20 months before he becomes eligible for parole.
