SEX OFFENDER JAILED FOR MULTIPLE RAPES
A man from Chatham has received a prison sentence of over 16 years after being convicted of child sexual abuse.
Kent Police began their investigation in July 2022 upon receiving a report that Jason Hartley had committed multiple rapes and sexual assaults against a young person between the years 2001 and 2007.
Additionally, a second victim, also a minor, came forward, revealing that Hartley, now 55, had exposed himself to them on at least two separate occasions.
Hartley, a resident of Palmerston Road, was subsequently detained and faced charges for 15 different sexual offences.
On 23 March 2026, during proceedings at Maidstone Crown Court, Hartley pleaded guilty to several charges, which included rape, raping a child under 13, and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
An additional five charges have been kept on file.
Later, on Friday 10 April, the court sentenced him to 16 and a half years in prison, with an extra year to be served on licence.
He was also subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and mandated to register as a sex offender.
