CLINTON FERREIRA ST IVES SEX ATTACKER SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS IN CORNWALL
In a case that has shocked the community of St Ives, Cornwall, Clinton Ferreira has been handed a lengthy prison sentence of 20 years after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offenses. The crimes, committed between August and October 2019, involved three separate female victims and took place in various locations around the popular seaside town.Ferreira, who resides on Tregenna Place in St Ives, was accused of a series of heinous acts that included false imprisonment, rape, assault by penetration, attempted rape, and attempts to choke, suffocate, or strangle his victims with the intent to commit further sexual assault. Additionally, he faced charges related to taking indecent images of a child and causing actual bodily harm through assault.
Despite denying the charges, Ferreira was found guilty by a jury after a detailed trial at Truro Crown Court. The evidence presented painted a disturbing picture of his actions and the extent of his criminal behavior. The court reviewed material found on Ferreira’s computer, which included over 200 hours of violent pornography, recordings of him with other women, videos of him discussing his intentions, and covert footage of women, all of which contributed to the severity of his sentencing.
Judge Simon Carr, presiding over the case, described the attacks as “sustained and brutal,” emphasizing the danger Ferreira posed to women. He stated that Ferreira represented a “very significant danger to women and probably will for the rest of your life,” underscoring the ongoing threat he believed Ferreira’s actions posed.
The first assault involved a teenage girl who was celebrating her exam results when she was suddenly grabbed from behind and choked, rendering her unable to scream. She later described her experience as terrifying, believing she was going to be raped and murdered. Her statement highlighted the profound impact the attack had on her life, and she expressed her contempt for Ferreira, calling him “nothing but a pathetic coward.”
In September 2019, Ferreira attacked a woman in her 30s while she was sleeping in a tent on Porthminster Beach, one of the locations where the assaults occurred. The following month, he committed a rape after taking a woman back to his flat, further demonstrating the pattern of his predatory behavior.
During the sentencing hearing, Ramsay Quaife, representing Ferreira, acknowledged that his client accepted responsibility for the attacks but explained that Ferreira had been “afraid and ashamed to admit” his actions. The court responded by imposing an extended sentence, which requires Ferreira to serve a minimum of two-thirds of his 20-year term before being eligible for parole. Additionally, the sentence was extended by five years on license, ensuring continued supervision after his release.
This case has left a lasting impact on the community of St Ives, highlighting the importance of justice for victims of sexual violence and the ongoing threat posed by individuals like Clinton Ferreira.
