CREWE MAN JAILED FOR VIOLENT DOMESTIC ABUSE CAMPAIGN
A 21-year-old male from White Avenue, Crewe, named Christopher Peberdy, has been sentenced to 45 months in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including five counts of non-fatal suffocation, strangulation, assault, and criminal damage. The court proceedings outlined a pattern of serious domestic abuse directed at his girlfriend, with whom he had been in a relationship for about four years.
Investigators described Peberdy as a manipulative and violent individual whose conduct caused his partner to feel vulnerable, humiliated, and constantly frightened.
Over the course of their relationship, he reportedly gradually isolated her from loved ones by restricting her interactions and controlling her movements.
One incident involved him pulling her by the hair, causing her to fall, and punching her when she attempted to seek help by calling out from a window.
She reported this assault the following day.
Additional allegations include spitting, saliva smearing on her face, pouring washing-up liquid into her hair, and kicking her in the stomach and groin.
Moreover, he reportedly bit her arm when she tried to get up.
On another occasion, Peberdy pulled her over the sink, poured water on her face while threatening her life, and later threw a metal pan at her.
Law enforcement officials described him as a manipulative and violent perpetrator of domestic abuse.
Inspector Victoria Shelton expressed her hope that, although the impact of the crime cannot be undone, Peberdy will be effectively managed post-release to prevent further offenses and help the victim find closure.
The February 26 assault involved him pulling her hair, causing her to fall, punching her, spitting at her, smearing saliva, pouring washing-up liquid into her hair, kicking her in the stomach and groin, and biting her arm as she attempted to stand.
He was detained and charged after the victim described how he also threw a metal pan at her, leaving her feeling trapped within her own home.
The case was heard at Chester Crown Court, leading to his sentencing.
Police officials praised the victim for her courage in reporting the abuse and reassured the public that such incidents are taken very seriously, with thorough investigations.
Inspector Shelton urged anyone suffering domestic violence to seek assistance and assured victims that police will prioritize their safety and well-being.
