CHRISTOPHER LINDSAY FROM PERTHSHIRE INVOLVED IN SHOCKING POLICE INCIDENT IN BLAIRGOWRIE
In a disturbing and highly alarming incident that unfolded in Blairgowrie, a man identified as Christopher Lindsay, who is known to have a volatile past, was involved in a confrontation with police that drew significant concern and media attention. The incident took place in the early hours of October 16, 2021, around 1am, when law enforcement officers responded to an unrelated call at a residence in Blairgowrie, a town situated within Perthshire.Upon arrival, officers encountered Lindsay, who was visibly intoxicated and displaying signs of agitation. He was found inside a house with a very young baby, whose nappy was hanging loosely, indicating neglect or distress. The situation quickly escalated as Lindsay, exhibiting aggressive behavior, threatened the police officers present. He boldly told them to pepper spray him because he 'f***ing loved it,' and made remarks about uploading videos to YouTube, suggesting a reckless attitude towards the confrontation.
What followed was a tense standoff where Lindsay refused to cooperate. He stood up and aggressively thrust himself toward the officers, shouting expletives and refusing to relinquish the baby. During this confrontation, Lindsay appeared to use the child as a human shield, attempting to prevent his arrest by positioning the baby between himself and the police. His behavior was violent and uncooperative, and when officers tried to restrain him, he struggled fiercely on the floor, shouting that it had taken 16 officers to control him during a previous incident.
Throughout the ordeal, Lindsay made further threats, expressing his love for pepper spray and claiming that it would take the combined efforts of the entire populations of Perth and Dundee to subdue him. The court proceedings revealed that Lindsay had a history of threatening behavior, including previous threats directed at parking attendants in Perth’s South Street and derogatory remarks made to a delivery driver, indicating a pattern of aggressive and threatening conduct.
During the hearing, Lindsay’s solicitor stated that he had made significant life changes and was currently employed full-time as a mechanic, suggesting efforts towards rehabilitation. However, the sheriff, William Wood, decided against sending Lindsay to prison, considering his criminal record and recent release from custody. Instead, Lindsay was sentenced to complete 120 hours of unpaid work, an additional 135 hours for breaching a previous community payback order, and was subjected to a 12-week restriction of liberty order, reflecting the court’s attempt to balance accountability with the possibility of reform.
