CLECKHEATON MAN SAW RED AS PARTNER TRIED TO LEAVE HIM
Kirklees Magistrates’ court heard that Graves, 27, of Mount Street, Cleckheaton, threw Kate Dixon’s clothes and bags out on to the pavement after she said she was going to leave him.According to prosecutor Mr Niall Carling, he then assaulted Ms Dixon’s friend Laura Betts and her partner Timothy Walker when they arrived on the scene to drive her away.
Graves pleaded guilty to two charges of assault by beating and one charge of criminal damage relating to a rear panel on the Audi.
He was fined £250 and ordered to pay a further £360 in costs and compensation, including a sum of £140 to repair the car.
The court heard Graves, a member of a partnership dealing with asbestos removal, was calm as Miss Dixon’s friends picked up her clothes and put them into their Audi.
But as the car set off, he ran up and started banging on the rear window.
Mr Walker got out of the car and was punched in the face by Graves.
Mr Walker got the defendant into a headlock, but he continued to lash out.
There was a general street scuffle involving all four people and, at some point, Laura Betts’ T-shirt and bra were ripped.
Graves also grabbed Miss Dixon by the waist and tried to carry her back into the house.
He added that at the time, the defendant had drunk five or six pints of lager and was suffering from depression, but he had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and apologised to all concerned.
