2008: BYPASS KILLER JAILED FOR LIFE
A BUSINESSMAN has been found guilty of murdering his girlfriend by reversing his Land Rover over her head.Christopher Caunter was convicted of Deborah Townsend's murder at Ipswich Crown Court on Monday afternoon.
The 36-year-old reversed his vehicle over the mother-of-three's head on the Beccles bypass - where a piece of her skull, scalp and hair were found in the road - on July 15, 2005.
Ms Townsend's body was found several days later in the boot of the car at Newland Hall, near Chelmsford.
During the trial Caunter, of Hullbridge in Essex, claimed that Ms Townsend had jumped from the car while he was driving along the A146 after an argument in the Norfolk Arms pub in Lowestoft.
The couple had driven there after Caunter's labouring business was raided by the Inland Revenue.
Caunter will be sentenced this afternoon.
