TRAGIC END FOR BOSTON'S CHRISTOPHER BEWICK: FORMER SCOUT LEADER FOUND DEAD AT HOME AFTER PAST CRIMES
In a somber development, Christopher Bewick, a 37-year-old former Scout leader from Boston, was discovered dead at his residence on Sleaford Road in October.Bewick, who previously gained notoriety for his involvement in a serious criminal case, was last seen alive five days prior to his death.
His passing has prompted an inquest to investigate the circumstances surrounding his demise.
Coroner Paul Cooper, presiding over the Boston Coroners Court, revealed that Bewick was found deceased on his sofa by emergency services on October 6.
The autopsy and subsequent pathology report concluded that Bewick died from sudden unexpected death attributable to alcohol misuse.
The coroner explained that excessive alcohol consumption can sometimes lead the body to shut down unexpectedly, a phenomenon that medical professionals believe was the cause in Bewick’s case.
Bewick’s troubled history with alcohol was well-documented.
He was previously convicted in 2011 after police raided his home and uncovered a disturbing collection of indecent photographs of children.
During that incident, Bewick confessed to viewing such images and expressed a sense of relief upon the police’s arrival, reportedly saying, “I’m glad you’ve come.” At the time of the raid on August 11, 2011, Bewick handed over a computer notebook along with several other electronic storage devices to officers.
He also admitted to his father that he had been viewing inappropriate images.
An extensive investigation uncovered a total of 1,257 indecent images, predominantly of boys, which ranged in severity from level one to four.
The collection included 22 videos, highlighting the gravity of his offenses.
Following his arrest, Bewick faced multiple charges.
He pleaded guilty to five counts of possessing indecent photographs of children.
As part of his sentence, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years and was subjected to an indefinite sexual offences prevention order.
His criminal record also includes a conviction from June of this year, when he appeared at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court and admitted to failing to notify authorities of a change of address.
For this offense, Bewick received a 12-month community order, a fine of £100, and was ordered to pay victim surcharge and costs totaling £170.
His death marks a tragic chapter in the life of a man whose past crimes and personal struggles have left a lasting impact on the community of Boston.
The circumstances of his passing continue to be a matter of investigation, but the findings suggest that alcohol misuse played a significant role in his untimely death.
