2007: HEREFORD MAN JAILED FOR JEALOUS ASSAULT ON MUM AND DAUGHTER
An incident involving a jealous Hereford man who assaulted a mother and her daughter after forcing his way into their home has led to an 18-month prison sentence.Worcester Crown Court heard that Christopher Beavan arrived at the residence at 2:30 am and attempted to force open a window.
He then went upstairs and physically assaulted Kerry Hart by pulling her hair, subsequently pushing her 15-year-old daughter Sophie into a door frame during her attempt to intervene.
The prosecution, represented by Michael Conry, revealed that Beavan was serving an eight-month suspended sentence for an earlier assault when he carried out this violence.
The 45-year-old, from Charles Witts Avenue, Hunderton, pleaded guilty to three counts of common assault, threatening violence to gain entry, and breaching his suspended sentence.
Judge Andrew Geddes issued a warning that any future violent act by Beavan could result in an indeterminate sentence designed to protect the public.
The defendant's relationship with the mother-of-two had been on and off for two years, but his jealousy intensified after he suspected her of fraternizing with another man.
On August 14, Beavan confronted and punched the man three times after discovering him at the victim's house in Peterchurch.
After leaving, he returned in the early hours, demanding an explanation for the man's presence.
When he was refused entry, Beavan became verbally abusive and suddenly violent.
Defence lawyer Andrew Davidson explained that Beavan was suffering from heartbreak due to the end of his relationship and was driven by jealousy.
He noted that Beavan, a carpenter, had lost everything he cared about following the breakup.
Court records show Beavan has a history of violence, with six convictions dating back to 1992.
