CHARLES SIMPSON OF BENCHILL AND WYTHENSHAWE JAILED FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE IN THE 1970S AND 1980S
In a case that has spanned decades and brought justice to long-suffering victims, Charles Simpson, a 60-year-old resident of Longhey Road in the Benchill area of Wythenshawe, has been sentenced to four years in prison after admitting to historic sexual offenses committed against children.Simpson's crimes date back to the late 1970s and early 1980s, during which he sexually assaulted three young girls aged between five and eleven.
The offenses took place over a period from 1977 to 1985, a time when the victims were particularly vulnerable and trusting.
The sentencing occurred at Manchester Crown Court, where Simpson pleaded guilty to 14 counts of indecent assault during an earlier hearing.
The court's decision also mandated that Simpson be registered on the Sex Offenders Register for the remainder of his life, a measure designed to monitor and restrict his activities moving forward.
Detective Constable Suzanne Keenaghan, who is part of the Public Protection Division, commented on the case, emphasizing the betrayal of trust involved.
She stated, “As an adult, Simpson abused the trust the children and their parents placed in him and subjected them to a number of sexual assaults over a prolonged period of time.” Keenaghan also highlighted the bravery of the victims, saying, “Thankfully, the victims were brave enough to come forward and ensure Simpson would not get away with his crimes.” She expressed hope that the sentence would aid in their healing process, acknowledging the deep psychological scars left by the abuse.
This case underscores the importance of perseverance in seeking justice for victims of historic abuse, and the criminal justice system’s commitment to holding offenders accountable, regardless of how much time has passed since the offenses occurred.
