WYTHENSHAWE MAN JAILED FOR REIGN OF TERROR AGAINST EX-PARTNER
A man named Shane Costello-Collins, aged 26 from Wythenshawe, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after being convicted of multiple violent and abusive acts directed at his former partner. His harassment campaign started when he entered her home unlawfully at approximately 10:30 pm on September 25 of last year.
Prosecutor Anna Chestnutt told Manchester Crown Court that prior to this, on September 4, he had arrived at her workplace intoxicated, immediately shouting at her after she requested him to stop spitting on the ground.
He responded by spitting on her, hurling racial insults, and threatening to kill her with the words, "I'm going to slice you and leave you with marks." When she tried to leave, he added beer to his assault by pouring it over her and spitting in her face.
Later that month, on September 25, he appeared at her house and physically attacked her by punching a light switch after she called him a narcissist.
He then followed her upstairs, accused her of infidelity, and during their heated confrontation, damaged her property by punching a hole in the bedroom wall, which caused concern among neighbors and led to a police call.
His abusive behavior continued as he raided her home, covered her front door with a black bin bag, and returned on October 17 at around 3 am, waking her with pounding on her door.
During that incident, he called her racial slurs, insulted her with terms like "fat sl*g," and demanded to know who she was with.
When she didn’t answer, he broke into her house, forcibly restrained her, dragged her upstairs, and hurled offensive words at her.
He threatened her life with a grim remark about her daughter, then physically restrained her on the bed, pushed her down when she attempted to escape, and during police intervention, he tried to headbutt officers and spat at them, necessitating secure clothing and a spit hood.
His aggressive behavior persisted on November 17, when he left threatening voicemails filled with racial slurs and death threats, referring to her disparagingly.
He then appeared again at her residence to talk, prompting a police response.
During arrest, he made an escape attempt by jumping from the police vehicle and nearly headbutted an officer, also spitting at the officers and requiring restraint in specialized clothing.
The victim's statement revealed the emotional impact of his actions, describing her as a high-risk victim of domestic abuse with ongoing fears for herself and her child.
His criminal record covers eight violent incidents between 2013 and 2017, including an 18-week prison sentence in 2017 for assault and breaching a restraining order, a two-and-a-half-year sentence in the same year for supplying Class A drugs, and a six-month suspended sentence for dangerous driving last year, along with other convictions.
The court, presided over by Judge Harris, sentenced him to 18 months for crimes such as criminal damage, assault, racially aggravated harassment, attacking emergency workers, and breaking a previous suspended sentence.
He will serve an additional 18 months on license after release.
A restraining order will be in effect for ten years, along with a 20-meter proximity restriction.
While the court recognized his remorse, it emphasized his repeated pattern of violence and threats and acknowledged the suffering caused to his former partner.
