MOTHER JAILED FOR 15 YEARS FOR THE MANSLAUGHTER OF HER TODDLER SON AFTER MENTAL BREAKDOWN
A toddler was killed by his former flight attendant mother after her bullying, unfaithful Ryanair pilot fiancé drove her to a sudden mental breakdown.James Chilvers, who was just 23 months old, was stabbed to death at his home in Wythenshawe.
His mother, Magdalena Lesicka, 32, attempted to take her own life but survived.
It has been revealed that Lesicka had suffered from a campaign of cruelty from her partner Peter Chilvers, which included bizarre acts of cruelty and degradation, and being made to eat hairs he plucked from his head.
She had also been planning to split from Chilvers and had contacted police and a women's charity about the abuse she endured.
On the night of August 26, 2017, she begged police not to arrest Chilvers, even though they intended to do so.
That same night, she brutally murdered her son, James, with multiple stab wounds, during a sustained attack in his bed at home.
Lesicka was convicted of manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility and sentenced to 15 years in jail.
The judge described James as an innocent victim caught between warring parents, saying, "As a tragic, innocent victim he (James) was caught, caught between two warring parents.
Whatever the rights and wrongs of that dispute, the last thing that should have happened was that he should have lost his life - killed by a parent." Furthermore, Peter Chilvers was jailed for 18 months for domestic and psychological abuse, including controlling behavior, threats, and violence, which contributed to Lesicka’s mental health deterioration and ultimately to the child's death.
His trial revealed he had been violent after finding out about her secret abortion, and Lesicka described their relationship as a 'living hell'.
Mr.
Justice Dove stated during Lesicka's sentencing, "It was a sustained attack with a knife in which multiple blows were struck whilst he was on his bed at home.
There was no conceivable outcome other than he would be killed.
His unique presence in the world was taken from us.
Who knows what he might have grown up to achieve?" It was also detailed that 'Pure pressure' had caused her mental collapse, which was not a pre-existing condition but was induced by prolonged psychological torment inflicted by Peter Chilvers.
Lesicka's barrister emphasized her mental illness was a result of the relentless abuse she suffered, and she had no previous mental health difficulties, but her mental state deteriorated rapidly.
The article also notes her premeditative actions in researching self-defense weapons and her plans to leave her abusive relationship, which she was attempting to document prior to her son's death.
