DOG OWNER BANNED FROM KEEPING ANIMALS AFTER STAFFIE PUT DOWN
A woman from Manchester has been banned from keeping dogs for five years after neglecting her elderly pet, who later had to be put down.
She pleaded guilty to neglecting her Staffie Laney and causing the dog to suffer, who was severely emaciated and unable to stand.
Marlow was sentenced at Manchester Magistrates' Court on October 16.
She received a six-month community order, five rehabilitation activity requirement days, and was ordered to pay a £120 fine.
The RSPCA visited her home in August 2023 following a report from a member of the public stating a dog was struggling to stand.
Laney was found to have laboured breathing, an ulcerated mass on her hip, and severe muscle wastage, with her condition estimated to have declined over at least two weeks.
The vet at Greater Manchester Animal Hospital gave her the lowest possible body condition score, and she was put to sleep to prevent further suffering.
RSPCA inspector Rachel Whalley criticized her for failing to seek veterinary treatment and adequately feed her dog despite visible signs of poor health.
