HOT-HEADED CHEF JAILED AFTER ATTACKING FORMER PARTNER
Carmelo Trapanese, aged 37, became enraged and caused injuries to Miranda White, leaving her with a black eye and scratches.According to reports, he followed her upstairs, grabbed her by the throat, applied pressure to her neck, and struck her.
He then prevented her from leaving the premises.
The case was heard at Burnley Crown Court, where it was revealed that Trapanese had been under a three-year restraining order prohibiting contact with Miss White at the time of the incident.
Additionally, he was subject to a suspended prison sentence following a prior incident in which he pinned Miss White to a bed and began strangling her, leading to her choking and struggling to breathe.
Born in Palermo, Sicily, Trapanese recently worked at an Italian restaurant in East Lancashire but lost his job after police arrested him related to the recent assault.
He, residing on Albert Street in Burnley, has been sentenced to a total of 12 months behind bars.
His guilty pleas included breaching the restraining order, and he was found guilty after a trial of simple assault and breaching the order while serving a suspended sentence for another offence.
Magistrates had already committed Trapanese for sentencing.
Prosecutor Mr.
Steven Wild told the court that on August 30, Miss White stopped a police officer outside Burnley Police Station to report an earlier assault by Trapanese, despite the restraining order issued in October 2015 that remains in effect until October 2018.
Miss White explained to police that during a barbecue at Trapanese’s home, some friends visited, and she had spoken to one of them, which seemed to provoke Trapanese.
He followed her upstairs, grabbed her by the throat, and was squeezing her neck.
She said she was frightened and tried to defend herself by throwing objects and scratching him.
During the struggle, he struck her, causing a black eye.
Afterwards, she left the house and went to police to report the incident.
She also said Trapanese initially prevented her from leaving.
He was arrested the next day, denied breaching the restraining order, and said she had entered his home uninvited, prompting him to ask her to leave.
The court was told that Trapanese was convicted of assault causing actual bodily harm in July 2015, for which he received an eight-month sentence suspended for two years.
Before the current case, Miss White had received text messages and calls from Trapanese telling her not to attend court.
Despite these efforts, she attended and testified, resulting in his conviction.
Trapanese has two past convictions involving Miss White.
His previous conviction related to assault causing actual bodily harm was partly served in custody, equating to about a five-month sentence, after which the relationship was briefly rekindled.
