KILLER'S SENTENCE EXTENDED FOR PAISLEY LAUNDRY ROOM RAPE
A killer has had his prison term extended by four years for raping a woman at knifepoint in a laundry room.Cameron Woods, 27, targeted his victim in Paisley, Renfrewshire, on 16 April 2023.
He is currently serving an 18-and-a-half year sentence for fatally stabbing Robert Fisher, 26, three months after the rape.
Judge Sheena Fraser told Woods he had a "horrendous" criminal record and that his sentence for the rape would run consecutively to his murder conviction from earlier this year.
Woods and his former girlfriend, Stacey Balfour, 24, were jailed in June for killing Mr Fisher after an argument broke out in a tower block.
The victim was found critically injured in a flat in Maxwellton Street, Paisley, on 23 July 2023 and died in hospital four days later.
On Friday, Woods appeared at the High Court in Glasgow via video link after he was previously found guilty of the earlier rape.
Jurors heard the killer, from Paisley, repeatedly attempted to kiss his victim and uttered sexual remarks towards her.
He also repeatedly touched her on the body then produced a knife which he held at her neck.
Woods went on to grab the woman’s neck and hair and forced her to the ground before raping her.
Callum Hiller, defending, told the court his client continued to maintain his innocence.
Judge Sheena Fraser put Woods on the sex offenders register and made him subject to a non-harassment order, which prohibits any contact with his victim.
She said: "You committed the heinous crime of rape by forcibly pulling a vulnerable woman into a secluded room and held a knife to her face to achieve your purpose." The judge added that there was no alternative to custody.
She told Woods: "The victim impact statement sets out the impact on her which is clearly significant and long-lasting.
It is clear the level of harm inflicted is high.
You have a horrendous criminal record which include crimes of violence and use of a weapon."
