OFFENDER WITH A RECORD OF VIOLENCE JAILED FOR VIDEO-RECORDED SEXUAL ASSAULT
A man named Cameron Hassan, aged 32, with a history marked by violence and threats against women, was sentenced to ten years in prison for recording himself raping a sleeping woman in Ammanford, Carmarthenshire.Hassan confessed once the court reviewed footage of the assault, which was presented during his trial.
The judge, Geraint Walters, characterized the act as "almost incomprehensible as a profound degradation of a woman." At the time of the incident, Hassan was without permanent address and is also mandated to register as a sex offender for life.
Prosecutor Nicola Powell emphasized that the victim stated she would "never have consented to sexual acts while she was asleep." The court heard that Hassan used offensive language and told the victim to "wake up" while performing the rape in August 2021.
The video footage captured Hassan encouraging her to return to sleep after the assault.
With a criminal record comprising 92 offenses primarily related to violence and harassment targeting women—though no prior sexual offenses—Hassan’s behavior was extensively scrutinized.
During police interrogations, he claimed that the woman was "pretending to be asleep" and described the incident as "role play." The victim suffers from significant psychological damage, including difficulties trusting others, intimacy issues, nightmares, and depression.
The court underscored Hassan’s lack of respect for women, describing his actions as deeply degrading, and pointed to his history of violent and threatening conduct towards females.
