MAN JAILED OVER VIDEOS OF CHILD ABUSE AND ANIMAL TORTURE
A man from County Durham involved in recording and possessing harmful content was found with videos depicting animal abuse, including a disturbing clip of a puppy being sawn in half.Cameron Greaves, aged 21, was discovered to have accumulated a collection of graphic videos depicting both child and animal cruelty.
His arrest followed an investigation conducted by Durham Constabulary.
Court proceedings revealed that Greaves was addicted to pornography and had downloaded some of the most grotesque material ever examined by police officers.
An analysis of Greaves’ iPhone and other electronic devices led to the discovery of hundreds of explicit images classified as categories A, B, and C, some involving infants as young as one year old.
The devices also contained videos of animal torture with sexual content.
On Tuesday, Greaves, previously residing on Hawes Crescent in Crook, appeared via video link from HMP Northumberland to face sentencing on three counts of creating indecent images, one of possessing extreme pornography, and one of possessing a prohibited image.
He admitted to the charges.
Prosecutor Charlie Thompson stated that Durham police had seized Greaves’ devices earlier this year during his arrest.
The seized data included numerous child abuse images, videos of animal abuse, and extreme pornographic content.
It was highlighted that Greaves had been downloading this material on the day he was taken into custody.
Mr Thompson said: "[There were] images of the torture of animals for pleasure, [including] dogs being tortured to death and a puppy being sawn in half." The court was told that one such video was around an hour long and that Greaves had been purchasing videos in online chat rooms, even paying £70 for one.
Greaves also had child abuse material involving children in "pain and distress".
In a previous sentencing in May, Greaves received an 18-month prison term for possessing indecent images and committing voyeurism in 2022, wherein he secretly took photographs of two men.
He was also subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and required to register as a sex offender for ten years.
Cole Cockburn, defending, attributed Greaves’ actions to a pornography addiction and expressed that he felt remorse and shame.
He highlighted that Greaves had a clean conduct record beforehand and wished to reintegrate into society, noting he was well-regarded by colleagues before his incarceration.
Judge Adams handed Greaves a 28 month prison sentence, telling him 10 months will be added on to the current 18 month prison sentence he was given in May.
The judge added that one officer who had witnessed some of the videos described them as "some of the most disturbing they had ever viewed as part of their professional duties".
