CROOK FATHER AND SON ASSAULT DAUGHTER'S EX-PARTNER IN REVENGE ATTACK
A father named Brian Wright, aged 52, from Crook, carried out a violent assault on his daughter's former partner in broad daylight.
The incident occurred when Wright and his son Simon responded to neighbors' concerns after Wright believed his daughter was in danger.
During the confrontation, Wright approached the victim with a bat and struck him on the leg, causing pain and disorientation.
He then beat the victim over his body with the bat and used fists, with his son Simon joining the attack by repeatedly punching the victim.
The assault lasted approximately five minutes and resulted in injuries including a lump on the head, bruising, swollen cheek, and a split lip requiring stitches.
Wright admitted to wounding with intent and affray, and was sentenced to three years in prison, which was suspended, while his son received a 10-month sentence suspended for two years and was ordered to undertake unpaid work and rehabilitation.
The attack was a retaliation following a dispute over the victim collecting belongings from his ex-girlfriend's house.
The court noted Wright previously had a good character and was a local boxing coach who lost his license after the incident.
