CONTROLLING BOYFRIEND DEMANDED PARTNER HAND OVER £400 A WEEK
Callum Kellett was sentenced on 3 February 2026 to nearly two and a half years in prison after being convicted of a series of domestic abuse offenses targeting his ex-partner.He faced charges including seven counts of assault by beating, two counts of controlling and coercive conduct, and one count of deliberate strangulation, with the court confirming his guilt on all counts.
Authorities highlighted a pattern of escalating violence and dominance during their relationship.
The victim was coerced into surrendering her weekly earnings of £400 and suffered from persistent verbal abuse.
Kellett falsely accused her of cheating, regularly insulted her, and restricted her grooming and social interaction, leading to her social isolation.
The incidents of violence were both frequent and serious.
After drinking in Leeds, Kellett threatened to cut her throat, assaulted her legs, bit her arms and legs, and attempted to break her fingers, later claiming to have no memory of the attack.
There was also an incident where, while she was in the bath, he grabbed her by the throat, pulled her hair, and pushed her head towards the water.
In June, neighbours called the police after hearing her screams during an assault involving punching and biting.
In November, he threatened to fracture her jaw if she did not buy cannabis for him.
Police later found videos of Kellett threatening to kill her and end her life.
He was arrested the next day.
A victim impact statement was read aloud, in which the woman described her life as "ruined" and explained that she had been under his control throughout their relationship, feeling trapped and isolated.
Kellett pleaded guilty to the charges, which included controlling behaviour, strangulation, and multiple counts of assault.
The judge highlighted that custody was necessary due to the severity and persistence of the abuse, dismissing arguments that intoxication mitigated his actions and affirming his sole responsibility.
He was sentenced to 28 months in prison and was also subject to a restraining order lasting ten years, preventing him from contacting his former partner.
