SERIOUSLY VIOLENT DOMESTIC ABUSER SENTENCED TO PRISON
December 2023: A man accused of being a 'seriously violent' domestic abuser, Bruno Borges, has received a prison sentence of 27 months at the Isle of Wight Crown Court.The 35-year-old Borges was involved in multiple physical assaults against a woman, leading to police involvement.
Officers described him as someone who 'demonstrates a clear intention to harm those around him,' and he repeatedly attacked the woman.
During his arrest, Borges became increasingly hostile, scratching an officer's arm, digging nails into another officer’s hand, and biting one officer’s leg as he was taken into custody.
He also faced charges of four counts of assaulting emergency workers, assault by beating, and assault causing actual bodily harm—all of which he admitted to.
Prior to this, Borges was involved in an incident on June 10 near Cockrams Yard in Newport, where he assaulted the same woman again, knocking her to the ground and resulting in a chipped tooth, after a witness stepped in.
Police Constable Dave Hughes stated that Borges is a 'seriously violent man' and reaffirmed the police’s dedication to addressing domestic abuse.
The court ordered Borges to pay a £190 victim surcharge, with his sentencing taking place on December 22.
