MAN CAUGHT WITH VILE IMAGES OF CHILDREN

Update 03/06/2026: An Isle of Wight man with a past sex offense will face sentencing this summer after failing to disclose his whereabouts to authorities for an extended period.

Alan Wilson, residing on Shanklin High Street, appeared before the IW Magistrates’ Court on Friday, May 29, to hear his sentence.

The 38-year-old had previously acknowledged violating the reporting obligations of the Sex Offenders Register.

During the hearing, it was revealed that Wilson did not inform police of his change of address, despite living at a different location for approximately 18 months.

Wilson admitted to the breach of notification rules on March 20.

These requirements originate from a 2019 conviction related to the possession and distribution of indecent images of children.

Additionally, magistrates noted that Wilson is involved in separate legal proceedings at the IW Crown Court after confessing to three new counts of creating indecent images of children, with offenses dating to 2023.

Defending, Jim Osborne said his client is due to appear on June 12, after a previous hearing was adjourned for a mental health assessment.

Mr Osborne said the now completed assessment indicated Wilson would benefit from a mental health treatment requirement, which he would not receive if he were sentenced to custody.

He added Wilson “takes full responsibility” for his actions and is “ashamed.” Magistrates adjourned the case until after the crown court proceedings have concluded.

Wilson will return to the IW Magistrates’ Court on August 4 for sentencing.

He was granted unconditional bail.

A man from the Isle of Wight who possessed disturbing images of children as young as one will learn his sentencing later this year.

Alan Wilson, who resides on High Street in Shanklin and was previously living on Clarendon Road in the same town, appeared before magistrates on February 24.

The 38-year-old admitted to three counts of creating indecent images of minors, with the offenses occurring in Shanklin on October 26, 2023.

Wilson informed the court that police visited his workplace and confiscated electronic devices, including his mobile phone, which stored 18 images classified as Category A, 59 as Category B, and 242 as Category C child abuse images.

The court was told that these images depicted children aged one to ten, predominantly between three and six years old.

It was also revealed by Mr.

Evans that Wilson had previously been found with similar material in 2019.

Wilson’s case has now been postponed until May 15, when it will be heard at the Isle of Wight Crown Court.

The magistrates have ordered the preparation of a comprehensive pre-sentence report covering all sentencing options, and Wilson has been granted unconditional bail until that date.

He is also subject to police notification requirements.

Prosecutor Rhys Evans stated that police had received information linking Wilson to online child sexual abuse imagery.
