BRUCE STEWART FROM DEVIZES AND EDINGTON SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN SWINDON

In a recent development in the ongoing investigation into child sexual offences, Bruce Stewart, a 69-year-old man with ties to the villages of Edington and the town of Devizes in Wiltshire, has been sentenced to a decade behind bars.

The sentencing followed a conviction for a series of serious sexual crimes involving minors, which were committed over a span of more than a year.

Stewart, who previously resided at Greenhills in Edington and more recently at Colston Road in Devizes, appeared before Swindon Crown Court to face charges related to his alleged misconduct.

On May 22, the court found him guilty of 16 counts of sexual offences, which included a range of disturbing allegations involving children.

The offences were committed between May 2007 and July 2008, highlighting a prolonged period of criminal activity.

Prior to the conviction, Stewart had already admitted to 11 charges of making indecent photographs of children, along with a charge of possessing such photographs at a level 4 severity, indicating images that depict child rape.

These admissions underscored the severity of his actions and contributed to the court's decision to impose a substantial prison sentence.

In addition to the charges related to indecent images, Stewart was convicted of attempting to rape a female under the age of 13.

The court also found him guilty of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child under 13, inciting or causing a child under 13 to engage in sexual acts, and sexually assaulting a female under 13.

These charges paint a disturbing picture of Stewart’s alleged conduct, which spanned multiple instances and involved vulnerable minors.

It is noteworthy that Stewart was acquitted of an alleged sexual assault on a male under 13, indicating that the evidence did not support that particular charge.

The offences for which he was convicted took place during specific periods, including between May 31 and September 1, 2007, from April 30 to July 5, 2008, and between July 6 and 13, 2008.

In a procedural adjustment, Stewart’s prison sentence was reduced by 80 days by the judge at Swindon Crown Court, a reduction granted for the time he spent on curfew while on court bail.

This adjustment slightly shortened his overall incarceration period but did not alter the severity of his sentence.

The case has garnered significant attention due to the nature of the crimes and the locations involved, emphasizing the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to address and prosecute child sexual abuse cases within Wiltshire and beyond.
