MAN JAILED FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING YOUNG GIRL

A 65-year-old man has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for sexually assaulting a young girl during the 1990s.

Lloyd Burgess, who resides on Sheep Street in Devizes, Wiltshire, was given the jail term after he appeared before Winchester Crown Court on Friday.

Authorities commended the courage of his victim, who was only 11 years old at the time of the assault, after she reported the incident in 2021.

The court heard that Burgess’s crimes occurred between October 1995 and October 1998.

Burgess had previously appeared in court on 17 March, where he admitted to two counts of indecent assault—terminology now replaced by the charge of sexual assault under the Sexual Offences Act 2003—relating to incidents in the late 1990s.
