MAN JAILED FOR YEARS OF CHILD SEX ABUSE OFFENCES
A man has been jailed for sexually abusing a child over a number of years while living in Devizes, including having sexual intercourse.Christopher Mugridge, 65, of Pevensey Road, Bognor Regis, has been convicted of 12 offences.
The offences include having sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 years, assault of a child under 13 by penetration, two counts of sexual assault of a child under 13, five counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 16, two counts of indecency with a child and one count of cruelty to a person under 16 years of age.
Having moved to Pevensey Road, Bognor Regis in Sussex, and being found guilty by trial in September, he was sentenced at Winchester Crown Court on Monday, December 9 to 21 years in jail.
In a statement read out in court, his victim said: "The reality is that you are the only person who hurt me, and you only hurt me because I was a little girl with no hope of defending myself.
I want to live a fulfilling life, have a partner I can trust and kids that I can trust them with, and I will not allow the memory of you to stop me".
The police did not provide the dates of the offences but said they were “non-recent”.
In relation to the police investigation and the trial, the victim stated, “I have felt more supported in the last two years during this process than in my whole life.” Investigating officer, Detective Constable Ryan Churchley, CID said: “Wiltshire Police takes sexual offences against children very seriously, whether this is a recent offence or something which has happened many years ago.
The police did not specify the exact dates of the offences but emphasized that the crimes are 'non-recent'.
