BRODIE BURNS FROM PETERHEAD SHOCKS COMMUNITY WITH BRUTAL DOG ATTACK IN BERRYDEN ROAD

Brodie Alexander Burns, also known as Brodie Geddes, born around 1996 and residing on Willowbank Road in Peterhead, became the focus of a disturbing animal cruelty case that drew widespread attention across the local community and beyond.

The incident, which took place on Berryden Road in Peterhead, involved Burns viciously attacking his own Staffordshire bull terrier in a manner that shocked viewers and prompted a police investigation.

Footage capturing the horrifying assault quickly circulated on social media platforms, showing Burns repeatedly punching and kicking the defenseless dog while a man named Stewart looked on.

The video’s viral spread led authorities to track down Burns and Stewart, who were both initially charged in connection with the incident.

The footage depicted Burns laying into the dog with evident aggression, while Stewart, who was present during the attack, failed to intervene or stop the violence.

During an early court appearance, both Burns and Stewart denied the allegations, maintaining their innocence.

Remarkably, Lesleyann Stewart’s plea of not guilty was accepted by the court, despite her being present during the attack and not taking any action to prevent it.

Burns, on the other hand, later changed his plea in March 2022, admitting to the charges against him.

The court proceedings revealed that Burns had assaulted the dog and behaved in a threatening or abusive manner.

In the aftermath of his guilty plea, Burns was sentenced to a supervision order and a curfew.

Notably, he was not prohibited from owning animals, meaning he could retain custody of the dog involved in the attack.

During the sentencing hearing, Burns expressed remorse, stating to Sheriff Christine McCrossan, “I love my dog.

I love it … it was just a stupid mistake.” Following a review of his background and an assessment for a restriction of liberty order, the sheriff imposed a 12-month period of social work supervision and a three-month curfew.

Despite the severity of the incident, Burns was not banned from keeping animals, a decision that drew criticism from animal welfare advocates and members of the public concerned about future incidents of cruelty in the Peterhead area.

Two offenders have been sentenced to prison for a heinous assault on a pensioner from Peterhead, resulting in serious injuries.

Michael Geddes and his nephew Brodie Burns were today jailed for attacking and attempting to rob 75-year-old Mary Shaw.

The elderly woman was peacefully sleeping at her home in Blue Toon on July 9, 2023, when the pair targeted her, demanding £10,000 and assaulting her severely.

Judge Andrew Miller described their actions as “nightmarish.” Geddes, who lives in Allandale, Camperdown, had previously done odd jobs for Ms.

Shaw, while Burns, residing nearby on Willowbank Road, was a person she had only acquaintanceship with.

During their trial at the High Court last year, both men denied involvement and each accused the other, but a jury found them both guilty of inflicting injuries that led to her hospital stay.

Ms.

Shaw sustained a fractured sternum and ribs, as well as sinus issues, which still cause her discomfort.

She was hospitalized for five days following the attack.

She testified that the assault has affected her sleep and, speaking to the Press and Journal, disclosed that she has spent “thousands” to improve the security of her home.

Reacting today as the men are settling into their prison sentences, she remarked: “I would have preferred it to be a bit longer, but there you go.

“It not only brings me some peace of mind, but it’s also for everyone I’ve spoken to in Peterhead.

It’s for them as well.

It could have been anyone — just like me — that they targeted.

“Now I can sleep again.

I feel more balanced.

The memory of the incident will always be there, but it’s in the back of my mind.

It’s closure.

Let them deal with it inside.

“I’m glad they’re off the streets.

I’m pleased with the outcome.”
