On the evening of June 9, Welsh’s ex-partner received a text message from him indicating he was feeling suicidal and was planning to take his own life.
The woman was alarmed by this and contacted the police.

When she asked for the phone back, he refused and started shouting and swearing.
Subsequently, Welsh kicked her on the leg.
Police arrived and found both the woman and the witness upset.
Welsh continued to act aggressively towards the woman and police officers.

Welsh appeared in court for sentencing after previously pleading guilty to three charges.
