SCOTT WYLIE FROM TROON IN HOT WATER OVER SEX OFFENDER CONDITIONS AT AYR SHERIFF COURT

Scott Wylie, a registered sex offender from Troon, is currently in custody as he awaits sentencing after allegedly breaching the strict conditions imposed by his sex offender order. The violations involved him deleting messages from his phone and attempting to contact a woman, actions that are explicitly prohibited under his legal restrictions.

Wylie’s history with the law regarding his sex offences dates back to 2021, when he was reported for nearly ten months for deleting messages from his mobile device at his residence on Wardlaw Crescent, Loans, Troon. This behavior was considered a violation of his sexual offences order, which had been put in place to monitor and restrict his conduct. As a consequence, he was sentenced to perform 200 hours of unpaid work and was warned that any further breaches could lead to imprisonment.

Recently, Wylie appeared before Ayr Sheriff Court to face charges related to his ongoing violations. The allegations include deleting his own messages and encouraging a woman to delete her messages as well. The police investigation was prompted by a screenshot violation from December 1 of the previous year, which was brought to their attention by social workers involved in the case. On January 11, officers visited Wylie’s home to examine his mobile phone, but they found no evidence of the chat conversations, suggesting that the messages had been deleted prior to their inspection.

The following day, law enforcement officers visited the woman’s residence to scrutinize her phone. Despite their efforts, they found no concrete evidence of the messages, although investigations revealed a recent connection to another phone and contacts on Facebook. It was established that the woman had been in contact with Wylie since November 29, and despite advice from social workers to cease communication, she continued to engage with him.

During police questioning, Wylie reportedly admitted that he had advised the woman to delete their messages, claiming this was to avoid getting into trouble. He stated that he had told her to remove the exchanges to prevent any issues with the authorities. His defense solicitor requested bail for Wylie, but the sheriff refused this request, citing concerns over the ongoing investigation and the need for further background reports. Wylie was remanded in custody, pending further legal proceedings and assessments.
