BRIAN TUNER FROM MIDDLESBROUGH SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE AFTER 35 YEARS
In a significant development in the fight against child sexual abuse, Brian Tuner, a man residing on Glendale Road in Middlesbrough, has finally been brought to justice after nearly four decades. The victims, who endured his heinous acts over 35 years ago, have spoken publicly for the first time since his conviction, shedding light on the long-lasting impact of his crimes.
On Thursday, November 29, at Middlesbrough Crown Court, Tuner, now aged 67, was sentenced to a term of 14 years in prison.
His conviction followed a detailed investigation into allegations that spanned over ten years, during which he was found guilty of multiple serious offenses.
These included the rape of a child, four counts of indecent assault, and three charges of indecency with a child.
Additionally, he was convicted of indecent assaults on a second child, further highlighting the extent of his criminal behavior.
The court proceedings revealed the disturbing nature of Tuner’s crimes, which had remained hidden for decades.
Despite his initial plea of not guilty, the jury found him guilty on November 5, leading to his sentencing today.
As part of his punishment, Tuner will be registered on the sex offenders’ register for life.
Furthermore, he will be eligible for parole consideration after serving seven years of his sentence.
Following the verdict, the victims issued statements through Cleveland Police, expressing their pain and the long road to justice.
One victim stated, “This evil man has ruined my life.
He is in the best place, so he can’t sexually abuse another child.” The other victim shared a heartfelt message, saying, “Sorry isn’t good enough, he took away something I could never get back and he ruined my childhood.” DC Peter Littlewood, an officer with the Cleveland Police Child Abuse Investigation Unit, commented on the case, emphasizing the betrayal of trust involved.
“Brian Tuner betrayed the trust of his victims and sexually abused them in the most appalling way,” he said.
“The victims in this case have shown great courage in reporting the abuse, and I applaud their bravery.
I hope this sentence encourages other victims of sexual abuse to come forward, as this case demonstrates that those who prey on children will be brought to justice.” Despite his conviction, Tuner maintained his innocence throughout the trial.
However, the evidence presented in court was compelling enough to secure a guilty verdict, leading to his lengthy imprisonment.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and the need to protect vulnerable children from predators lurking within communities like Middlesbrough.
