BRIAN TELFORD FROM CHESTER-LE-STREET JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN NEWCASTLE
In a case that has shocked the local community, 38-year-old Brian Telford from Chester-Le-Street has been sentenced to 12 months in prison after being found guilty of engaging in sexual activities with a 13-year-old girl. The incident took place during the summer of the previous year and involved a series of manipulative and predatory behaviors that have now led to his conviction.According to court proceedings, the young girl, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, was lured into a relationship with Telford through promises of marriage once she reached the age of 16, along with the offering of lavish gifts. Telford initially denied any sexual contact with the girl, but after her testimony in court, he admitted to one charge of having sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of consent. This admission was a significant development in the case, which highlighted the manipulative tactics employed by Telford.
The Newcastle Crown Court heard detailed evidence of the relationship, including the exchange of numerous love notes, some of which spanned over twenty pages. Prosecutor John Aitken revealed that Telford had provided the girl with tickets to see her favorite pop group, Steps, at Newcastle Arena, and had purchased a tent for her and her 11-year-old brother, further demonstrating his attempts to maintain a close and controlling relationship.
In a disturbing twist, Telford allegedly tried to orchestrate a scam involving the girl to cover any potential pregnancy resulting from their unprotected encounters. He reportedly suggested that she hatch a plan to claim she was raped, should she become pregnant, in an effort to conceal the true nature of their relationship.
Mr. Aitken emphasized that the girl was subjected to significant emotional pressure by Telford, who exploited the vast age and experience gap between them. The court was told that during the summer of the previous year, Telford faced multiple charges, including three counts of sexual intercourse with a girl and two counts of indecency with a child. He was initially charged with all offenses but was discharged from the remaining charges after pleading guilty to one.
During police interviews, Telford initially claimed that his relationship was with the girl’s mother, attempting to obscure the truth. However, he later admitted that he loved the girl but was willing to wait until she turned 16 to pursue a proper relationship.
As a result of his conviction, Telford, residing on Third Avenue in Chester-Le-Street, County Durham, will be required to register as a sex offender for the next ten years, marking a significant consequence for his actions and serving as a reminder of the seriousness of such offenses.
