BRAIN SALT AND BROTHER JAILBREAK: SHOCKING SEX OFFENCES IN SNEYD GREEN AND STOKE-ON-TRENT
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Sneyd Green and the wider Stoke-on-Trent area, 76-year-old Brian Salt has been sentenced to three years in prison after being found guilty of serious sexual offences committed against a young boy decades ago. The court heard that Salt, a resident of Casewell Road in Sneyd Green, engaged in indecent acts involving a schoolboy, leaving lasting scars on the victim's emotional well-being.According to court proceedings, Salt was accused of touching the boy’s genitals beneath his clothing and performing a sexual act on him. The victim, whose age at the time of the abuse was between 11 and 12 years old, has since struggled with profound trust issues, difficulty forming and maintaining relationships, and feelings of embarrassment and shame related to the traumatic events. The court was told that these incidents have had a lasting impact on his mental health and social life.
Despite initially denying three counts of indecent assault, Salt was convicted on all charges following a trial held last month. The judge, Paul Glenn, emphasized the severity of the offences, stating that only a custodial sentence could be justified given the nature of the crimes. He described how Salt had manipulated the situation to make the victim feel responsible, including actions that led to the boy being naked and performing oral sex on him. The judge remarked that Salt’s actions had caused the victim to feel at fault, complicating his ability to move forward with his life.
In a related case, Salt’s brother, Joseph Salt, aged 80 and residing on Malton Grove in Tunstall, was also convicted of multiple sex offences. Last month, Joseph was sentenced to 16 years in prison after being found guilty of two counts of rape, three counts of indecent assault, and one count of indecency with a child. Both brothers were arrested in January 2015 on suspicion of historical sex offences, which had remained undisclosed until the recent trials.
Prosecutor Graham Russell highlighted that the offences committed by the brothers occurred during the victim’s childhood, specifically when he was around 11 or 12 years old. The court heard that the victim has been left with severe trust issues, difficulty making friends, and a reluctance to seek attention, all of which are attributed to the abuse he endured.
Following their convictions, Brian Salt was ordered to serve up to half of his three-year sentence before being released on licence. He was also placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely and prohibited from engaging in activities involving children and vulnerable adults. Similarly, Joseph Salt’s 16-year sentence ensures he will remain incarcerated for a significant period, with restrictions on his contact with minors and vulnerable individuals.
Both brothers’ cases have garnered significant media attention, highlighting the long-lasting impact of their actions and the importance of justice for victims of sexual abuse.
