SEX OFFENDER SPENT TIME AT A HOUSE WHERE CHILDREN LIVED WITHOUT TELLING THE POLICE
A sex offender who failed to inform authorities about his change of address and visited a residence inhabited by children has been sentenced to prison.
Brian Pay, who was placed on the sex offenders register in 2012 following a conviction for lewd and libidinous behavior at Hamilton Sheriff Court in Scotland, was required to notify the police of any address changes, absences from his usual residence, or visits to locations with children present.
Last year in March, a detective in Newcastle visited a property in London and found Pay, who had registered an address in Kent, living at that location.
After questioning and a confession that he had been residing there for about three months, Pay was granted bail.
During his bail period, Pay spent time at an address in Sunderland where a family with children lived, but he failed to inform the authorities about this movement.
The court heard that the 44-year-old, who has no fixed address, pleaded guilty to two charges of not complying with reporting obligations.
His criminal record includes 28 offences, among them seven prior failures to notify authorities.
Judge Carolyn Scott sentenced Pay to 28 months in prison.
