DAD SUSPENDED SENTENCE AFTER SEXUALLY ASSAULTING TEENAGER
A 63-YEAR-OLD dad has escaped a jail sentence after admitting sexually assaulting a teenager.Brian Kelly, of Crispin Street, St Helens, was living in Runcorn at the time of the incident in August last year, Warrington Crown Court heard on Friday.
He was speaking to the woman, who was described as a vulnerable adult, before walking into her home and telling her he ‘could use a hug’.
John Hedgecoe, prosecuting, said after hugging him, the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, carried on with household chores when Kelly pulled her towards him and touched her indecently twice.
The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was ‘deeply upset and distressed’ after the incident and called her brother who phoned the police.
Mr Hedgecoe added: “She froze not knowing what to do and couldn’t bring herself to tell her brother everything.” Kelly was convicted of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl 30 years ago but ‘expressed remorse’ during police interview.
Ian Weights, defending, said: “He can see how offensive his behaviour is.
This has deeply affected his relationship with his partner.” Judge Roger Dutton handed him an eight month sentence suspended for two years while Kelly completes the Northumbria sex offenders group work programme.
He added: “You couldn’t resist the temptation of satisfying your sexual urge.
At your age, you should be behaving yourself.”
