BURNLEY MAN BRIAN BAILEY SENTENCED FOR CHILD GROOMING AND THOUSANDS OF INDECENT IMAGES

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Burnley, Brian Bailey, a 44-year-old former club steward, has been sentenced to prison after being found guilty of serious child exploitation crimes.

Bailey, who previously worked at the Byerden House Socialist Society Club and Institute located on Colne Road, was arrested in July of the previous year following a thorough investigation by law enforcement agencies specializing in online child abuse cases.

His arrest was the culmination of efforts by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre, an organization linked to the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA), which tracks and investigates online predators and those involved in the possession and distribution of indecent images of children.

The investigation was initiated after CEOP identified suspicious online activity linked to Bailey, prompting notifications to both London’s Metropolitan Police and Lancashire Police authorities.

Law enforcement officials executed a search at Bailey’s residence on Briercliffe Road in Burnley, leading to his immediate detention.

During the subsequent legal proceedings, Bailey pleaded guilty to a total of 13 charges, including attempting to engage a 12-year-old girl in sexual activity in Burnley last May.

He also admitted to possessing over 4,000 indecent images of children, a crime that included 16 images classified at level five, the most severe category of child abuse images.

Bailey’s employment at the club lasted for approximately 18 months, but he resigned just two weeks prior to his arrest.

The club’s management, represented by club president John Hill, revealed that Bailey’s resignation was not related to the ongoing investigation, as Bailey had not disclosed his legal issues to the club committee.

Hill expressed his shock and disappointment, stating, “If we’d have known he’d have been sacked.

Nobody was shocked more than we were.

He did his job okay.

I think it’s disgusting what he has done.

I can’t work out why people would want to treat children like that.” Despite the allegations, Bailey was not accused of any inappropriate conduct within the club itself, and there had been no prior complaints from parents or members regarding his behavior.

However, the nature of his crimes was deeply troubling, involving attempts to arrange sexual encounters with minors and the creation of a vast collection of illegal images.

In a separate incident, Bailey was accused of attempting to arrange a sexual meeting with a 12-year-old girl in London during May and July of the previous year.

This led to an investigation by the Metropolitan Police.

Although he was found not guilty of the specific charge related to the attempted sexual encounter, Bailey admitted to other serious offenses, including attempting to force a child under 13 to watch him engage in sexual activity.

These admissions were made during court proceedings last month.

On June 6, Bailey was sentenced to four years in prison at Southwark Crown Court.

Additionally, he was issued an indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which prohibits him from working with children in any capacity.

The court also ordered the destruction of his mobile phone and all digital images seized during the investigation.

A spokesperson for CEOP emphasized the importance of such convictions, stating, “It is clear that those who possess indecent images also pose a significant risk to children and understanding and managing that risk is not an easy undertaking.

However, when we bring together the latest intelligence picture and nationally co-ordinated police action, we are making the UK a more hostile place for those who are seeking to exploit our children.

If offenders think that collecting child abuse images is something they can get away with, they need to think again.

This sentence shows once again how law enforcement is becoming increasingly coordinated, sophisticated and innovative in targeting those who commit these crimes.”
