An 18-year-old named Brenden Wyer was found with more than 450 sexual images of children on his mobile phone and laptop, some of which involved infants as young as six months old.Lancashire Police attended his address on Simpson Street in Burnley following an investigation by child protection services.
In June 2022, Wyer was arrested at his home after his mother had invited police inside.
At that time, Wyer was just 17 years old.
Prosecutors revealed that police discovered 461 sexual images of children on his devices, including still and moving images, along with pictures of babies and images depicting bestiality.
Wyer pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent photographs of a child and possession of an extreme pornographic image depicting intercourse with an animal.
During sentencing, Judge Daniel Prowse imposed a three-year community order with 20 days of rehabilitation and issued a sexual harm prevention order.
The judge emphasized the seriousness of the images Wyer viewed and highlighted concerns about his potential influence on real-world abuse.
He also acknowledged Wyer's autism and his mother's terminal illness, suggesting rehabilitation in the community would be beneficial due to these circumstances.
