EDINBURGH PRISONER THREATENS GIRLFRIEND DURING VIDEO CALL
Brendan Carroll, an inmate from Scotland detained at Edinburgh’s Saughton Prison, reacted with violence during a video call after a breakup with his girlfriend, Chloe Anderson, threatening her openly with the words: “I’ll slit your f***ing throat.” The 29-year-old, who has a history of domestic crimes, was serving time when Chloe ended their engagement during the call, prompting Carroll to respond with anger.The court was informed that during the conversation, Chloe told Carroll she no longer wanted to be together, which led him to make the threatening remark.
She promptly ended the video chat afterward.
Carroll was eventually released but was quickly detained again when Chloe reported the threat to police.
He faced Edinburgh’s sheriff court and pleaded guilty to threatening or abusive behavior.
It was revealed that Carroll, from Camelon near Falkirk, has two children from a prior relationship and was granted bail to stay with his grandfather in Motherwell, on the condition he avoid contact with Chloe.
The judge, John Cook, postponed sentencing until January for additional reports and hinted he might issue a non-harassment order to prevent contact with the victim.
His lawyer explained that Carroll had recently reconciled with Chloe, who often visited him, but also noted his recent release was complicated by medication issues and PTSD.
The lawyer admitted that the threat was wrong, and Carroll did not intend to carry it out, though he acknowledged his actions caused fear.
The court highlighted his poor record of domestic offending.
Carroll remains on bail and will be sentenced in January.
