MIDDLESBROUGH MAN SENTENCED FOR CHILD ABUSE MATERIAL COLLECTION
A 24-year-old man from Middlesbrough, Brandon Simpson, who used the username 'Mama's Boy' on the messaging app Telegram, amassed a disturbing collection of child abuse material including images and videos.
Some of these videos depicted children as young as 12 months old.
Simpson exchanged messages with another user, inquiring if they had any paedophilic content for him.
Police attended his residence on Westbourne Road, Linthorpe, Middlesbrough, after receiving intelligence about his possession of illegal material.
Simpson pleaded guilty to making indecent images and possessing a prohibited image.
Over the period from November 2022 to May 2024, he accumulated 115 category A images and videos, 34 category B, 33 category C, and possessed a prohibited image.
During court mitigation, his lawyer stated that Simpson hadn't distributed any content, had cooperated with police, and handed over his devices.
The court heard that alcohol abuse contributed to his actions and that he is now estranged from his siblings.
Judge Paul Reid sentenced Simpson to 14 months in prison, suspended for two years, and imposed a sexual harm prevention order, mandated him to attend 30 rehabilitation sessions, and participate in an alcohol abstinence program.
Simpson will be monitored via an electronic tag, and if it detects alcohol consumption, he will be brought back to court.
