MAN WHO KILLED TODDLER JAILED FOR MANSLAUGHTER
A man responsible for a fatal assault on a young girl, which resulted in catastrophic brain damage comparable to a fall from multiple stories, has been sentenced to prison for manslaughter.Brandon Heath, aged 22, carried out the attack at a residence in Northwich while the child's mother was giving a ride to a friend on August 30, 2020, according to Cheshire Police.
The young girl, who was 22 months old and cannot be named for legal reasons, passed away the following day.
Heath, described by the child's mother as a "monster," received a sentence of 13 years and six months at Chester Crown Court.
Emergency responders discovered the toddler unresponsive, weak, and having difficulty breathing after Heath initially claimed he had found her "collapsed on the floor." The Crown Prosecution Service stated that Heath persisted in lying about the circumstances and additionally blamed the child's mother, despite her not being present at the time of the injuries.
The girl was taken to hospital, where she underwent emergency neurosurgery; however, medical efforts were unable to save her.
A post-mortem revealed she suffered extensive brain trauma, bleeding around and inside her eyes, body bruising, rib fractures, and nerve injuries in her neck.
Heath, who does not have a fixed address, was detained on July 21, 2021.
Although he was acquitted of murder during the trial, he was convicted of manslaughter.
