BOB OWEN GYWNEDD MAN SENTENCED FOR SYSTEMATIC ABUSE OF YOUNG GIRLS IN GWYNEDD

In a harrowing case that has shocked the community of Gwynedd, Bob Owen, a 52-year-old man from the Penrhyndeudraeth area, was sentenced to over 14 years in prison for a series of heinous crimes involving the systematic abuse of young girls.

The sentencing took place at Caernarfon Crown Court, where Owen appeared to face the consequences of his actions after admitting to multiple charges.

Owen was convicted on two counts of raping girls under the age of 16, alongside 11 additional charges that included indecent assault and sexual assault.

The court also imposed a sexual harm prevention order, which explicitly prohibits Owen from making any contact with the victims, including two young girls and another individual who was named during the hearing.

This order aims to protect the victims from further harm and will remain in effect for life unless the court decides otherwise.

Judge Niclas Parry described the case as profoundly disturbing, emphasizing the persistent nature of Owen’s abuse over a period exceeding ten years.

The judge remarked that the details of the case made for “sad but very harrowing reading,” highlighting the severity of the crimes committed.

He stated, “This was systematic abuse of three young girls aged as young as seven.

The effect on them is incalculable and surely a long-lasting one.” During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Owen had also forced the victims, some of whom were under 11 at the time, to watch adult pornography with him.

This added layer of depravity underscored the extent of his misconduct.

It was also noted that Owen had previously served time in prison for making and possessing indecent images of children, indicating a troubling pattern of behavior.

Victims’ statements read aloud in court painted a bleak picture of the long-term impact of Owen’s actions.

Some victims reported turning to self-harm, developing eating disorders, and becoming dependent on alcohol and drugs in an attempt to numb the traumatic memories.

One victim expressed that she had “lost her childhood” due to the ongoing abuse and continues to suffer flashbacks, which she said have severely affected her education.

Another victim admitted to feeling humiliated and “riddled with guilt,” and expressed ongoing difficulties in trusting men.

In light of Owen’s guilty plea—both during police interviews and at the initial court appearance—Judge Parry sentenced him to 14 years and nine months in prison.

The court also ordered that Owen be barred from contacting any children under 16 and from using the internet on devices that are not regularly inspected by authorities.

This restriction is set to remain in place for the rest of his life or until the court decides to lift it.

Before sentencing, Owen expressed remorse for his actions, stating that he was “very sorry” and hoped that his punishment would contribute to the victims’ healing process.

The case has left a lasting impact on the Gwynedd community, highlighting the importance of vigilance and justice in protecting vulnerable children from such systematic abuse.
