BERTALAN OSZLANSZKI FROM KIDINGTON SENTENCED FOR GROOMING AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IN OXFORD

In November 2019, a disturbing case unfolded involving Bertalan Oszlanszki, a resident of Oak Drive in Kidlington, who was convicted of serious sexual offenses against a young girl. The court heard that Oszlanszki, whose actions have shocked the local community, engaged in grooming behavior and took explicit photographs of the child, leading to his subsequent imprisonment.

During the sentencing hearing at Oxford Crown Court, prosecutors detailed how Oszlanszki had systematically groomed his young victim through various forms of digital communication. The court was informed that he used FaceTime and messaging apps to establish a close and inappropriate relationship with the girl, who was a school student. Evidence revealed that Oszlanszki stored a nickname for the girl as 'baby' on her phone, indicating a disturbing level of familiarity and manipulation.

One of the messages from Oszlanszki to the girl read: “I am truly and deeply in love with you, I feel like shouting it out from the top of a mountain but I can’t,” which exemplifies the emotional coercion involved. The investigation was triggered when suspicions arose, prompting authorities to seize Oszlanszki’s mobile device. A subsequent forensic analysis uncovered a series of indecent images, including six photographs depicting the girl in her underwear and semi-naked images captured during FaceTime calls. Among these was a particularly alarming image that depicted a penetrative sexual act, which was presented as evidence in court.

Eyewitnesses also reported seeing the pair together in Oxford, where they were observed kissing passionately and walking hand-in-hand, further confirming the inappropriate relationship. When questioned by police, Oszlanszki continued to communicate with the girl through messages, some of which contained explicit content. Prosecutors highlighted that he sent messages expressing longing for her body parts and implying that his failure to answer her calls might be due to his death, thereby exerting psychological pressure on the victim. He also instructed her to delete certain messages, which prosecutors argued was an attempt to conceal his actions.

Defense lawyer Gareth James argued that the relationship was mutual to some extent and that the victim was a participant in the interactions. He also pointed out that Oszlanszki had admitted to the offenses at the earliest opportunity. However, Judge Maria Lamb described the relationship as an ‘unhealthy association’ and characterized Oszlanszki’s conduct as grooming behavior. The court sentenced him to a total of two years and eight months in prison. Additionally, Oszlanszki is required to sign the sex offenders register for a period of ten years, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the need for ongoing monitoring.
