OXFORD MAN GIVEN SUSPENDED SENTENCE FOR CHILD EXPLOITATIVE IMAGES
An Oxfordshire family were all cautioned by police after their address was flagged by law enforcement as involving an occupant uploading indecent images of children.Police attended a property in Beech Crescent, Kidlington, on November 9, 2022, after an IP address was associated with child sex abuse images.
Due to uncertainty about the offender's identity, the entire family was cautioned.
Subsequently, 20-year-old Julian Quinola was arrested and faced charges of creating indecent images or pseudo images of children (three counts) and possession of a prohibited image of a child (one count).
He was convicted at Oxford Crown Court on Thursday, January 16, to an eight-month prison sentence that was suspended for two years.
The court revealed that Quinola used the Kik app to download indecent images of children, once during summer 2021 and again during the Christmas period of 2021.
Police searched his home and found he had in possession 115 Category A images, 64 Category B images, 188 Category C images, and one prohibited image—totaling 368 images.
The offending period was between August 9 and September 23, 2022, during his underage years.
During police interviews, Quinola admitted to a 'horrific porn addiction' and expressed that his mental health was not in good shape, claiming he intended to delete the images and seek help.
His defense lawyer stated that Quinola was remorseful, early guilty plea, and had begun working with The Lucy Faithfull Foundation, a charity working to protect children by assisting those who pose a risk.
Judge Nigel Daly described the offenses as 'very unpleasant' and serious because they involved real children.
He emphasized that undertaking treatment could reduce the chances of future offending and help eliminate a market for such material.
Quinola was ordered to complete up to 35 rehabilitation activity days and six months of mental health treatment, and he was fined £500.
