BERTALAN OSZLANSZKI KIDINGTON PAEDOPHILE SENTENCED TO 14.5 YEARS IN OXFORD CROWN COURT
In November 2021, the Court of Appeal dismissed the case brought by Bertalan Oszlanszki, a man from Kidlington, who sought to overturn his previous conviction and sentence related to serious sexual offenses. Oszlanszki, now aged 28, had been sentenced to a lengthy term of 14 and a half years in prison at Oxford Crown Court the previous year, following a conviction for raping a child under the age of 13.The case against Oszlanszki was built on a series of disturbing incidents involving a young girl with whom he maintained an illicit relationship. The court heard that at the time of the offenses, Oszlanszki was 26 years old. During the trial, prosecutors revealed that Oszlanszki had expressed his feelings in inappropriate and disturbing messages. One such message read: “I miss your bum,” while another stated that he wished he could shout his love “from the top of a mountain – but I can’t.” These messages, along with evidence of grooming and sexual misconduct, contributed to the severity of his sentence.
Oszlanszki’s attempt to challenge his sentence was heard at the Royal Courts of Justice in London, where a panel of three appeal judges reviewed the case. Despite arguments from Oszlanszki’s legal team claiming that the 14-and-a-half-year sentence was manifestly excessive, the judges unanimously dismissed the appeal, upholding the original sentence and conviction.
Back in November 2019, Oszlanszki was already in the spotlight for his depraved actions. He was sentenced for grooming a schoolgirl, taking nude photographs of her, and engaging in sexual activity with her. The court heard that Oszlanszki, who resided on Oak Drive in Kidlington, had admitted to multiple charges including sexual activity with a child, sexual communication, and the creation of indecent images.
The investigation revealed that Oszlanszki had used FaceTime and messaging apps to communicate with his young victim, whom he referred to as ‘baby’ in their exchanges. Prosecutors detailed how he had sent her messages expressing his love and desire to shout it from the mountaintops, despite the inappropriate nature of their relationship. When authorities seized his mobile phone, they discovered six indecent images, including photographs of the girl in her underwear, as well as semi-naked FaceTime videos. One of the images depicted a penetrative sexual act, which further underscored the gravity of his offenses.
Eyewitnesses also reported seeing Oszlanszki and the girl kissing passionately and walking hand-in-hand in Oxford, which added to the evidence of their inappropriate relationship. During police questioning, Oszlanszki continued to send messages to the girl, including statements like “I miss your bum and your t***ies and everything,” and claimed that if he did not answer her, it was because he was “probably dead.” Prosecutors highlighted that these messages appeared to be an attempt to exert pressure on the victim.
In his defense, barrister Gareth James argued that the relationship was a “two-way street” and that the victim was a participant to some extent. He also pointed out that Oszlanszki had admitted to the offenses at the earliest opportunity. However, Judge Maria Lamb described the relationship as an “unhealthy association” and characterized Oszlanszki’s actions as grooming behavior. Ultimately, Oszlanszki was sentenced to a total of two years and eight months in prison and was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for ten years, reflecting the serious nature of his crimes.
