BENJAMIN YOUNG'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN FALKIRK SHOCK SCOTLAND: CHILD ABUSE AND ONLINE PAEDOPHILIA REVEALED
Benjamin Young, a 42-year-old man from Falkirk, has been exposed as a prolific and deeply depraved sex offender responsible for a campaign of horrific abuse spanning nearly two years.His criminal activities included the creation of private online chat rooms specifically designed to facilitate the exchange of indecent images and videos depicting the sexual assault of children, some as young as two years old.
These chat rooms were part of an organized and systematic network that Young managed and moderated, involving multiple other paedophiles across different countries, including Denmark.
His offending was not limited to online activities.
Young preyed on vulnerable children during his period of offending, which took place mainly in the Argyll and Bute area, between January 2021 and December 2022.
The scale of his crimes was staggering, with evidence indicating that he raped one child on at least 26 separate occasions.
The child victims were subjected to anal, vaginal, and oral rape, with some videos showing the victims holding signs with specific words written on them, a disturbing practice that dehumanized and objectified these young victims for the gratification of Young and other online paedophiles.
In addition to these heinous acts, Young also attempted to sexually assault a four-year-old boy and raped two other boys aged five and four.
His criminal conduct extended beyond direct abuse; he also engaged in voyeurism, recording a woman while she was sleeping without her consent.
The extent of his depravity was further underscored by the fact that he possessed nearly 20,000 indecent images and videos stored on his mobile phones, which were seized during a police raid shortly before Christmas last year.
The National Crime Agency uncovered these devices after discovering that Young had sent explicit photographs to a fellow paedophile in Denmark, prompting a detailed investigation.
During the court proceedings in Glasgow, the High Court heard harrowing details of Young’s crimes.
His lawyer, Ronnie Renucci, entered guilty pleas on his behalf to a total of 32 charges, including multiple counts of rape, sexual assault, and possession and distribution of indecent images.
The judge, Lord Arthurson, described Young’s actions as having “plumbed the depths of depravity,” emphasizing the calculated and systematic nature of his offending.
The court was told that a comprehensive risk assessment recommended a lifelong restriction order, reflecting the high risk Young poses to the public, especially children.
Prosecutor Kath Harper highlighted the extensive and prolonged nature of Young’s abuse, involving ten children under the age of 13 and one adult.
The court was shown evidence that Young’s crimes included the creation of a network of online chat rooms, where he not only shared indecent images but also moderated content, appointed other users as moderators, and induced others to commit further sexual offenses against children.
His online activities were described as complex and organized, with evidence indicating that he viewed children as objects to be violated, often with sadistic intent.
Detective Inspector Adrian Ure from the National Child Abuse Investigation Unit of Police Scotland described Young as a manipulative predator who exploited and harmed vulnerable children for his own sexual gratification.
He stated that the investigation uncovered the full extent of Young’s criminal behavior, which extended into the dark web, and that his actions contributed to the global demand for child sexual abuse material.
The police confirmed that Young’s offending had a lasting impact on the victims and their families, and that his conviction should serve as a warning to others involved in similar criminality.
At the sentencing hearing in Edinburgh, Lord Arthurson imposed a lifelong restriction order on Young, effectively sentencing him to an indeterminate period of imprisonment.
The judge described the crimes as some of the worst ever seen in court, noting the high severity, scale, and depravity of Young’s offenses.
The court detailed that Young’s offending included the systematic filming and distribution of abuse, with some videos showing victims holding signs with specific words, further illustrating the dehumanization involved.
Lord Arthurson emphasized that Young’s high risk of reoffending and the severity of his crimes justified the lifelong restriction order.
The court also set a punishment part of 12 years, which means Young will be ineligible to apply for parole until that period has elapsed, and even then, release is subject to the Parole Board’s approval.
The order was backdated to January 2, 2023, the date of his initial remand.
Additionally, Young is now subject to indefinite notification requirements under the Sexual Offences Act 2003, and he is prohibited from approaching or contacting any of his victims in any manner for an indefinite period.
Finally, the court issued non-harassment orders preventing Young from contacting or attempting to contact any of the victims, ensuring their safety and peace of mind.
