BOLTON MAN JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT OF VULNERABLE WOMAN
A man named Basil Alothman, aged 42, has received an eight-and-a-half-year prison sentence after being found guilty of raping a 19-year-old woman. The victim, whose anonymity is maintained by law, was out in Bolton with friends in January 2022.
She recalls drinking and dancing but then experiencing a blackout.
She awoke inside a car with Alothman atop her, assaulting her.
Her only other recollection was arriving at her mother’s house and confiding in a friend, which led police to get involved.
Alothman, who lives on Waggon Road in Bolton, was found to have been prowling the streets after pubs and clubs closed, specifically targeting women who appeared vulnerable.
Officers confirmed he had been driving around from about 2:30 a.m.
to 5 a.m., in search of sexual encounters.
The woman received a message from an unknown phone number saying 'sorry,' which police later traced back to Alothman.
The jury at Manchester Crown Court convicted him of sexual assault, and he was subsequently sentenced.
Detective Constable Andrew Jameson stated, “Today’s sentencing underlines the gravity of this appalling crime, and I am grateful to the young woman for her courage and cooperation during the investigation that led to his conviction.” It was established that Alothman exploited his victim’s intoxicated and vulnerable condition during the assault.
Authorities are urging other individuals who may have been affected to come forward, offering reassurance of support.
This case highlights the dangers posed by predators like Alothman, who prey on women in compromised states, and affirms the court’s commitment to safeguarding women from such serious offenses.
