BARRY MILLER IN SCOTLAND CAUGHT SPYING ON NURSE AND POSSESSING CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
In May 2014, a man named Barry Miller was convicted of spying on a young nurse and possessing a large collection of child abuse images.The incident took place in Barrhead, Scotland, where the 21-year-old nurse reported disturbing behaviour after noticing a man watching her from his window during early morning hours.
Paisley Sheriff Court heard that Miller, 40, had been monitoring the nurse as she arrived home from work, often between 4am and 5am, and would point a camera at her.
She became so frightened by this that she contacted police.
During a raid on Miller’s home, officers discovered four videos of her as well as 24 images he collected from social networking sites.
Additionally, officers recovered the registration numbers of vehicles she had been in.
Further investigation of Miller’s computer revealed a disturbing cache of 1,773 indecent images of children, some of whom were depicted engaging in sexual acts with adults.
Miller appeared in court and admitted to spying on the woman, taking photographs of her, recording digital images, and maintaining a log of her movements from September 2012 to July 2013.
He also confessed to possessing indecent images or pseudo-images of minors.
Depute fiscal Amanda Gallagher explained that the nurse, who did not know Miller and had never met him, lived near his home on Glasgow Road.
She described her growing fear after noticing he was taking pictures of her from his window as she returned from work, stating to detectives, “There were too many incidents to count.” The police secured a search warrant and found that Miller had visited her Facebook profile 40 times.
Most of the illicit images depicted pre-pubescent girls aged roughly two to 15, with approximately 150 images showing sexual activity between adults and children.
Sheriff Robert Fife deferred sentencing, noting that Miller now resides in Giffnock, and ordered a background report to be prepared.
A defense lawyer indicated that she would delay her plea until next month when Miller would be brought back to court to hear his sentence, which would include placement on the Sex Offenders’ Register for an unspecified duration.
