A respected teacher who knifed her husband to death has been sentenced to four years in jail.
The High Court in Glasgow heard that Madge Boyle, 55, was suffering from manic depression at the time of the incident in July last year.
Her husband, Thomas Boyle, a construction worker, received a single wound in his arm which severed an artery.
Despite her husband's attempt to drive to hospital, he bled to death and was found slumped behind the wheel of his vehicle.
Mrs Boyle was initially charged with murder but the Crown accepted a plea of culpable homicide, concluding that the injury was not intended to kill and was survivable with prompt medical treatment.
The court also considered psychiatric evidence that her mental illness diminished her responsibility.
Lord Mackay of Drumadoon sentenced her to four years, backdating the sentence from 15 July last year when she was detained.
