2011: EVESHAM FARM WORKER JAILED FOR SEX ATTACK ON TEENAGER
A TEENAGER was subjected to a terrifying sex attack as she walked home alone at night in Evesham.
Worcester Crown Court heard that the 19-year-old was followed by farm worker Audrius Lumsys who pulled her to the ground, held her by the hair, and penetrated her with his fingers.
The victim, who sat in court with a police officer, screamed and struggled to break free, hitting Lumsys with her shoes which she had taken off.
Lumsys then let go and fled.
Two men hearing her crying went to her aid, and CCTV footage linked him to the attack.
Lumsys, aged 20, of Broadway Farm, Evesham, pleaded guilty to assault by penetration and was sentenced to three years in prison, with an order to sign the sex offenders' register indefinitely.
Judge Toby Hooper QC described the assault as "utterly terrifying and degrading," and praised the strangers who helped the victim.
Lumsys, who came to England for the fruit picking season, also faces deportation after his sentence.
His lack of English made the sentence harsher, and he had no previous convictions.
He expressed remorse, and his solicitor noted he could offer no explanation for his behaviour.
