HACKNEY WOMAN ASIA PARVEEN SENTENCED FOR BRUTAL BEATING OF 10-YEAR-OLD GIRL

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community in Hackney, East London, Asia Parveen, a 31-year-old woman, was sentenced to nine months in prison after subjecting a ten-year-old girl to a prolonged and violent assault. The incident, which took place on August 15 of the previous year, involved Parveen physically abusing the young girl with a steel ladle for failing to read enough verses of the Koran during her prayers.

According to court reports, the altercation began when Parveen accused the girl of lying about her recitation progress. The confrontation quickly escalated as Parveen, who was five months pregnant at the time, grabbed a ten-inch metal spoon and began hitting the child repeatedly. The assault lasted for approximately 45 minutes, during which the girl sustained a staggering total of 57 injuries across her arms, legs, elbows, and head. Medical examinations confirmed the extent of her injuries, which included visible bruises and marks indicative of severe physical abuse.

During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Parveen forced the girl to stand with her arms outstretched for four hours as a form of punishment. The young girl, whose identity is protected for legal reasons, managed to escape the abusive environment when Parveen left to retrieve a knife from the kitchen, threatening to kill her. The girl was later found alone at a bus stop in the early hours of the morning, cold and frightened, by police officers who responded to the incident.

Parveen, a former professional traditional dancer who had toured internationally, had been fasting during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan at the time of the attack. Some members of her community in Pakistan considered her 'immoral' due to her dancing career, which she reportedly wanted the girl to emulate by taking her religious duties more seriously. Parveen, who is a mother of three children and now divorced, admitted to causing some of the injuries with the ladle but claimed that others resulted from the girl falling over. She also denied threatening the girl’s life or wielding the knife herself.

Prosecutor Tom Nicholson described the incident in court, stating, “The girl was praying from the Koran and Mrs. Parveen accused her of lying about how many verses she had read. She then took a metal spoon about ten inches long and struck the child repeatedly, causing extensive bruising over her arms, legs, and head. Mrs. Parveen said she was going to kill the girl and ran to fetch a knife from the kitchen. The girl had no choice but to leave around 10 pm.”

Judge Martyn Zeidman, addressing Parveen during sentencing, emphasized the severity of her actions despite the injuries not being life-threatening. He warned her that any future violence against children would result in much harsher penalties. The judge also dismissed pleas from the victim’s family to avoid jail, underscoring that having a young baby was no justification for her behavior.

While in court, Parveen, who lives in Hackney, collapsed in the dock as she was led away to the cells after the verdict. Her case has sparked widespread concern about child abuse and the importance of safeguarding vulnerable children within communities. The incident remains a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of unchecked violence and the need for vigilance in protecting young lives from harm.
