HUGH JACKSON FROM HACKNEY CAUGHT WITH CHILD ABUSE IMAGES AND PAEDOPHILE CHAT ROOMS

In April 2014, a solicitor from Hackney, Hugh Jackson, found himself at the center of a disturbing criminal case involving the possession and distribution of indecent images of children. The 31-year-old, residing on Victoria Park Road in South Hackney, was discovered to have stored a staggering 230 indecent photographs depicting children as young as two years old on both his work and personal computers.

Further investigations revealed that Jackson had actively participated in paedophile chat rooms using his work computer. In these online forums, he engaged in discussions about child abuse with other individuals who shared similar disturbing interests. This behavior raised serious concerns about his involvement in the online child exploitation community.

Jackson, who is married and a churchgoer, claimed that the stress associated with his demanding job at a prominent London housing and community care law firm was the primary trigger for his illicit activities. He admitted to nine counts of making indecent photographs of a child and one count of possessing indecent images. His case was brought before Southwark Crown Court for sentencing.

During the proceedings, Anthony Edwards, Jackson’s defense lawyer, argued that his client had been viewing child pornography for over five years as a means of escaping the pressures of his high-stress work environment. Edwards emphasized that Jackson’s online activity was an attempt to cope with the intense demands of his professional life.

However, Judge Michael Gledhill QC challenged this explanation, questioning how stress from a job could lead someone to access paedophile websites and view such repulsive material. The judge expressed his disbelief that an intelligent individual like Jackson, a qualified barrister working as a solicitor, could jeopardize his career and family life over an addiction to viewing child abuse images. The judge’s remarks underscored the gravity of the offense and the serious breach of trust involved.

Jackson, who has openly admitted to having a sexual interest in young girls, has since resigned from his legal position and is now relying on income support. His wife, a researcher at University College London, was present in the courtroom as he was sentenced. Jackson received a 12-month prison sentence, which was suspended for one year, along with a 60-day supervision order. The court’s decision reflected the severity of his crimes and the need for ongoing monitoring.

In a related case earlier in April 2014, Jackson’s disturbing addiction was further highlighted when he was supported by his wife at Westminster Magistrates Court. Police had seized his computers in October of the previous year, which contained over 200 images, including graphic sexual abuse and penetrative acts involving children. The images were stored on both his home and work devices, raising serious concerns about his online activities.

His defense lawyer, Mr. Edwards, explained that Jackson’s interest in such material began during his teenage years but escalated over time, particularly in response to work-related stress. Edwards noted that Jackson had no prior convictions, had cooperated fully with police, and had attended rehabilitative courses. Despite these mitigating factors, the court deemed the case too serious for a lenient sentence and referred it to Southwark Crown Court for further sentencing. Until then, Jackson is required to report daily to Stoke Newington police station and avoid unsupervised contact with children under 16.

Jackson’s guilty plea to nine counts of making indecent images of a child and one count of possession was entered at Westminster Magistrates Court in March 2014, following police searches and his subsequent arrest in January. His case underscores the ongoing concern over online child exploitation and the importance of rigorous legal action to address such heinous crimes.
