PETER GEORGIADES FROM CLAPTON AND HACKNEY JAILED FOR SEX ATTACK ON TEENAGE GIRL AT HACKNEY DOWNS
In a disturbing case that has shocked the Hackney community, Peter Georgiades, a 50-year-old resident of Della Path, Lower Clapton, was convicted and sentenced for a heinous sexual assault involving a 13-year-old girl. The incident took place early in the morning on April 18, as the young girl was on her way to school, highlighting the vulnerability of children during their daily routines.According to court proceedings, Georgiades made persistent sexual advances towards the teenager before escalating the situation. He forcibly took her by the arm and led her into Hackney Downs Park, where he committed the assault. The attack was carried out around 8:30 am, a time when many residents are beginning their day, and the area is usually bustling with activity.
During the assault, Georgiades threatened the girl with violence if she did not comply, adding a layer of intimidation and fear to the already traumatic experience. The girl’s screams for help attracted the attention of nearby witnesses, specifically two 13-year-old boys who heard her distress and rushed to her aid. In response, Georgiades punched her multiple times in the face as he attempted to escape.
He managed to flee the scene but was quickly identified and apprehended by police later that same afternoon. Law enforcement officials used CCTV footage to track his movements, revealing that Georgiades was wearing a distinctive jacket and a single leather glove as he left his residence and moved through Hackney towards the scene of the crime.
Following a thorough investigation, Georgiades was brought to trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court. After a two-day trial, the jury unanimously found him guilty of the charges. The judge presiding over the case did not hold back in condemning Georgiades, describing him as “disgusting” and emphasizing that his actions are “what every parent is terrified of.”
Given the gravity of the offense, the judge decided that the standard sentencing guidelines for sexual assault were insufficient. As a result, Georgiades was sentenced to 45 months in prison, reflecting the serious nature of his crime and the community’s need for justice.
Detective Constable Karen Baillie expressed reassurance to the public, stating, “Residents can be safe in the knowledge that this violent and despicable man is no longer sharing the streets with them. Hackney is a safe place, and incidents like this are thankfully quite rare. We will continue to utilize every available resource to remove sexual predators from the streets of Hackney.”
Furthermore, authorities have initiated eviction proceedings to ensure Georgiades is permanently removed from the Hackney area, aiming to prevent any future threats to the community’s safety.
